I've Got Time This Week

Image
Let me try to do a good email this time jaja. Last week my phone was dying while I was crammed in the zone leaders' car with every Elder in the district as I wrote the email, so I'm going to call that the reason why it was so haphazard jaja. Worth it though, we tried to play baseball uphill on a sand dune.  We got to spend the P-day on Gran Canaria because we had an exchange the next day with the ZLs, which was cool. Got to work with Elder Blackburn for a day in Las Palmas which was cool. Our scheduled appointments didn't end up happening but we talked to some cool people on the streets. Ended up in a long discussion with a lady who had a lot of questions about what we believe, but also a lot of deep-set ideas of her own. We shared a lot with her and I'm going to be asking Elder Blackburn if anything cool happens with her. Afterwards, we headed back to Fuerteventura after spending the whole last week in Lanzarote. Splitting between islands is pretty fun but occasionally...

Rule number one of being the Fuerteventura/Lanzarote missionaries: Waste No Travel Last P-day we traveled to Gran Canaria for zone P-day, stayed for zone conference, and left directly for our other island, Lanzarote. The island has its own ward, own missionary apartment, and it's own classic missionary food spots. It's normally its own area but the Spain Madrid North Mission has been losing more missionaries than they gain for the last few months so they had to combine the Fuerteventura and Lanzarote areas. It's basically like I got transferred again. I can tell its been tough on the members on both islands to have to share the missionaries, they're always asking if we'll even be in the area. We do a lot of video calls so we can teach people on the other island, but it's better to be able to reach people in person if we need to. I'm getting to know the people of these islands really well, the people we're teaching have desire but face a ton of specifics....

It's Called A Guagua

Buenos días a todos, cerca o lejos, en tierra o mar Another week in Fuerteventura, although strictly speaking we weren't in Fuerteventura all that much, because we had an exchange in Vecindario on the island of Gran Canaria. More details to follow but immediately after that exchange I had to fly to Madrid for a residency appointment and was there for a night. A lot of travel but we got a lot of good stuff done. While we were here we've started meeting with a good chunk of the people we met street contacting, and those who want to meet with us are really fun to get to know and to talk to.  Our first appointment with this guy named Jorge was really cool, he mentioned he was in a park near the center of town and invited us to come join him, and he had his two kids with him as well. It's just awesome to sit down and teach people who want to learn. Running out of time for pday so the rest will be bullet points  Busses are called guaguas here, it's pronounced wawa but luckily...

Rock, Water, And Spirit

1. New Stuff New time zone, continent, area, and comp. I'm not ruling out the possibility that my favorite color changed this week either.  Greetings from Fuerteventura! Travel was a lot but I finally landed here in the Canaries on Wednesday. My new comp is Elder Quintana from Majorca. He's a legend and we're working pretty well together. Our area covers two islands, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, which makes it big enough that we have two apartments and switch back and forth on a weekly basis. We haven't switched yet since we just got here and we won't next week because we have a bunch of stuff to do on Gran Canaria (the central one that has the other 6 missionaries in our district) but we'll get there eventually. Fuerteventura is a giant rock in the middle of the sea. Flying over it, it looks like a Mars colony basically. Just rocks, hills, and small clusters of organized buildings. Everyone keeps telling me that the little lines and specks of green are only her...
