Some Assemby Required

Buenaaaaasssss Stuff going pretty good, we found a cool new guy named Yohnny last week after he came to church, but we found out he needs surgery and we won't be able to meet for a bit. Sadly, our friend Rosa moved to Barcelona this week, but we had a great final lesson with her, talked about her goal to get baptized, and promised her that whatever happens over there, she and her son will have God and probably the local members on their side. I just hope we can trust the Elders in our rival mission lol.   We got a call from Efigenia, which just began with "Elders, I need a handcart!" Surprisingly she's not trying to walk to Utah, but she wants to throw a Pioneer Day party in June and getting really excited about it.  We finally got to go to her hometown of Taiche, where she takes half of our Libros de Mormón and gives them out like candy. We talked to a few of her long lost cousins, it was a great opportunity to spread the gospel in a new part of the island, and every...

La Caridad Nunca Deja De Comer

Charity Never Faileth- to Eat Anyone remember that it was the Relief Society's anniversary a few months ago? Well half the Arrecife ward was sick then, so they celebrated a few days ago. They needed our help setting up so despite not being Relief Society members we got to be there. They also needed tech support putting up videos, and from what we could figure out they were trying to give themselves laughter therapy as a group. They straight up asked us to put "if you laugh you lose" videos on the overhead projector, so when we headed to another room to get weekly planning done we just heard these older Spaniard ladies laughing at 2010's YouTube for like an hour.  Kikiri-ki, a local member-owned restaurant basically catered the whole thing so we got a ton of fried chicken. Nadie lo hace como Kikiri-ki lo hace. Efigenia pulled up halfway through with a few non-members and helped them meet more members of the ward. Totally on-brand, and it's given us some new angles ...

La Pasuca De Resurrección

Feliz Pascua a todos! Hope everyone had a great Easter. We had a great week! Everyone remembers how Efigenia found someone on the street 10 minutes after General Conference? We've already had two lessons with her new friend Rosa and even invited her to be baptized! She's pretty new around here, and has a very hyperactive 6-year-old son. He's so funny during lessons. Rosa told us that she'd been praying to God that she'd meet the right people in her life, and now look what happened. It's amazing! We had a cool service project this week, our bishop asked us to come out to the campo, or field, side of the island and weed some really overgrown gardens. Missionary work is complicated, so pulling weeds for a few hours was actually really relaxing. Bishop also "hired" (I guess we did get lunch, I'd call that getting paid) this cool guy named John who's about our age but less active in the Church. We talked Colombian slang and food while we committed p...

EEELDERES!!!

Hope y'all enjoyed conference! It's always great to hear from the inspired leadership of the Church. I'm a little disappointed that more of the people we invited didn't come watch with us, but the great thing is that we have six months to study and apply everything that was taught! Even before conference, this was an interesting week. We've been having awesome experiences and meeting people in so many new ways. For example, our English class has been popping off. Being the cool Americans that we are, we do a pretty good job helping people learn to ask and answer important questions in English, but when class is over, people are surprisingly willing to stay for a spiritual message. We've come up with a pretty cool format, and after every class we share something from the Bible, introduce the Book of Mormon very quickly, and put in its two cents on the principle. Everyone seems to like it, and last week one guy asked us when church was. Elder Romrell also set up a...
