La Caridad Nunca Deja De Comer
Charity Never Faileth- to Eat
Anyone remember that it was the Relief Society's anniversary a few months ago? Well half the Arrecife ward was sick then, so they celebrated a few days ago. They needed our help setting up so despite not being Relief Society members we got to be there. They also needed tech support putting up videos, and from what we could figure out they were trying to give themselves laughter therapy as a group. They straight up asked us to put "if you laugh you lose" videos on the overhead projector, so when we headed to another room to get weekly planning done we just heard these older Spaniard ladies laughing at 2010's YouTube for like an hour.
Kikiri-ki, a local member-owned restaurant basically catered the whole thing so we got a ton of fried chicken. Nadie lo hace como Kikiri-ki lo hace.
Efigenia pulled up halfway through with a few non-members and helped them meet more members of the ward. Totally on-brand, and it's given us some new angles to take with teaching some of them. Classic Efigenia.
I kept thinking about how Emma Smith would feel if she saw the Arrecife Relief Society. I'd imagine overjoyed but also hilariously confused.
It seemed like half the island was sick this week, and not just a flu going around. Everyone's got different little problems. One guy whose *entire family* we're trying to find got an eye infection, recovered, and promptly got a toothache. As much as everyone likes to blame the "calima" (airborne dust from the nearby Sahara desert) it really doesn't explain it.
It was a weird and kinda slow week, but we did manage to have some cool first lessons, including a Restoration lesson in English. Elder Romrell's a beast when he can let loose. We also successfully pivoted another guy from English class to learning about the gospel.
Strange Encounters
Ran into some lost tourists from Israel. *Instant regret for not trying hard enough to learn Hebrew*
I've been trying, (classic missionary hobby lol) but it's hard to get motivated to learn the language of the Old Testament when I live in (A) 2023 and (B) Catholic Spain. Anyway they spoke English so we helped them find the bus stop.
As we walked away from a (friendly) street contact, this one guy called after us and started talking about how the devil is great too. I had to remind him that Satan WAS an angel. Past tense.
Slice of Life
Our boy Manuel got made ward mission leader which doesn't change really anything because he's always helping us with everything, but now we've got the authority of his calling behind us and we're about to pop off. He's already organizing a group of English class people to play football so that'll be cool.
Went to go do service in our bishop's fields again one morning, which was cool, and this time we got to bring Manuel. However, when we got back our water was turned off so we had to get back into pros clothes and wait like two more hours before we could shower. Nasty.
Shoutouts to Sister Song, Elder Davis, and Sister Ledesma... y'alls Asian food pics always make me really hungry, but we went to a Chinese buffet last P-day and now it's my turn to flex. See photos.
I want to wrap this up by talking about personal revelation. Our prophet has encouraged each of us to develop the skill and has promised that as "you repeat this process day after day, month after month, year after year, you will “grow into the principle of revelation.” "
I'd like to compare this to a spiritual thought that Elder Romrell gave the other day. He showed those present (a lot of them were kids) a barbell, and compared it to our testimony- it's only useful and makes us stronger as we use it, and just possessing it doesn't do much. We can trust the God is ready to give us revelation, but it is important that we seek after it, and record it when it comes. As we can see and point to the ways that God had influenced our lives for the better, it will be more possible for Him to do it more.
That's all I got for y'all today, until next week!

Statue/horizontal windmill on the way to bishop's house.
Efigenia asked me to get a picture of her with these kids but none of them really looked at the camera.
This is for you in a bit, Mom, hope you like it.
