EEELDERES!!!
Hope y'all enjoyed conference! It's always great to hear from the inspired leadership of the Church. I'm a little disappointed that more of the people we invited didn't come watch with us, but the great thing is that we have six months to study and apply everything that was taught!
Even before conference, this was an interesting week. We've been having awesome experiences and meeting people in so many new ways.
For example, our English class has been popping off. Being the cool Americans that we are, we do a pretty good job helping people learn to ask and answer important questions in English, but when class is over, people are surprisingly willing to stay for a spiritual message. We've come up with a pretty cool format, and after every class we share something from the Bible, introduce the Book of Mormon very quickly, and put in its two cents on the principle. Everyone seems to like it, and last week one guy asked us when church was. Elder Romrell also set up a teaching appointment with a whole family in the middle of conversation practice, so we'll see them later today!
Because we offer English class, it's actually been a lot easier to find people street contacting. Lots of people are willing to learn about the gospel, but they need to be eased into the idea of ... us I guess. So we mention that we're missionaries, ask people if they believe in God, and ask if they've ever been interested in learning English. And when people show up, learn to say a few things, and get to know us, they're so much more willing to accept the invitation to learn about the restored gospel.
We also had exchanges with the ZLs which were cool. People in the street like talking to Elder Janish because he's like 6' 7. They also watched part of the first session of conference with us, which was great because no one else showed up except Efigenia. That'll be important later.
After the session ended and the ZLs left, Efigenia told us she felt inspired by Elder Cook's talk on the gathering of Israel to share the gospel *more*. This is coming from the woman who knocks doors in her hometown with her ward friends and Primary kids, but her realization was that she could just stand on the corner across from the church and try to talk to people. Classic Efigenia.
Anyway so we headed to our apartment, which is in the same building as the church, to prep some things for the coming week. We left a window propped open to let some air in, and got to work for ten minutes before we heard "ELDERES!!" from the street below. We looked down to see Efigenia with a mother and son on the corner, looking up and down the street. We got her attention and she called us down. Turns out she'd started talking to people right then and there, but didn't have her phone, a pen, any way to follow up with her new friend, or a clue where we were. But she yelled for us anyway and there we were. We've even got an appointment to teach this new family and they want to come to English class.
^^^^^ Pay attention to the impresions you get watching or studying General Conference. You might become half as cool as Efigenia.
We received a lot of counsel about how to prepare for Easter! Let's celebrate the Resurrection of our Savior the right way!
