Rule number one of being the Fuerteventura/Lanzarote missionaries: Waste No Travel
Last P-day we traveled to Gran Canaria for zone P-day, stayed for zone conference, and left directly for our other island, Lanzarote.
The island has its own ward, own missionary apartment, and it's own classic missionary food spots. It's normally its own area but the Spain Madrid North Mission has been losing more missionaries than they gain for the last few months so they had to combine the Fuerteventura and Lanzarote areas. It's basically like I got transferred again.
I can tell its been tough on the members on both islands to have to share the missionaries, they're always asking if we'll even be in the area. We do a lot of video calls so we can teach people on the other island, but it's better to be able to reach people in person if we need to.
I'm getting to know the people of these islands really well, the people we're teaching have desire but face a ton of specifics. To be honest to respect their privacy I'm just going to list a few names and ask you all to pray for them. Fernando, Angela, and Sandra need all the help they can get.
Concerning people I've already mentioned...
We've tried to schedule a video call with Jorge and his family a few times and something always comes up. We're hopeful that when we're back on their island we'll be able to set up something better. We'll see.
Carmen went to church on Sunday in Fuerteventura even though we were in Lanzarote. Legendary.
Slice of Life
Who here remembers when they used to "speak Spanish" with their friends as a little kid by putting '-o' at the end of every word?
("Come-o to mi house-o for tacos")
Anyway Spanish people put "shon" at the end of their words. "por supuesto" means "of course" but Elder Quintana and I are having fun saying "Por Supuesteishon"
Found a tent in the apartment and set it up. It's the small things. Why not. 1 Nephi 2:15. Check it out on the Google Photos.
There's a Columbian restaurant that lets us eat free once a week. It's called Kikiri-ki (means Cock-a-doodle-doo) and they have a pretty cool mural of a scary chicken man. See photos.
Zone Conference was fire but one of the coolest topics we covered was the importance of the Book of Mormon. Its the tool God chose to show the truth of the Restoration and to the world, and those who were instruments in His hands to bring it forth sacrificed so much. Thanks to them there is a powerful evidence of God's love for and connection with His children. It's a simple but powerful way to share it.
Enjoy Thanksgiving for me, it doesn't really exist here
