Onsite MTC Week 1

Hey everyone!

I flew to the Provo MTC on Wednesday! It was a Church-organized flight so I was expecting lots of missionaries. Ended up with just one, but shoutout to Sister Finch for making the trip less boring.

Arrived in SLC and went to breakfast with my grandparents. Nice to have a good meal before the MTC cafeteria became my one way to get food.

After arriving at the MTC, I met my companions, Elder Keele and Elder Bottoms. They're heading to Phoenix, Arizona, so I have all sorts of local knowledge to share with them. We're a trio, but I'm designated as SOLO-CNC, which basically means that I'm in different classes from them. The rest of the time we're stuck with each other, but I couldn't ask for better companions. Elder Keele is often the only one of us who knows where we are are on this confusing MTC campus, and Elder Bottoms makes sure everyone is always pumped up.

Everyone else in our residence hall is awesome, they're not in my district but they're a great set of workout bros. Most of the people who welcomed us here have left already, which is pretty rough.

Classes have been great so far. I'm still learning with Sister Song since we both know enough of our mission languages to get by. We're becoming familiar with the lessons and practicing lots of teaching skills.

My district is awesome, we're from all over and heading all over so not many of us will see each other again but we're making the most of it while we're together. Unfortunately, we lost Sister Allen to the COVID isolation ward our first day but we have her back today! We visited her window a few times while she was in there and haven't felt totally whole without her.

My branch president, President Spendlove, is awesome. We've had a few meetings and I've already learned so much from him. He gave me the responsibility of district leader, and have participated in some interesting meetings about the needs of our branch.

I also got news about my visa! I'm heading to the Spanish consulate tomorrow to pick it up, which means I'll be flying right to Spain on June 29!

To finish with a spiritual thought, a scripture that meant a lot to me this week was in Alma 32:21 which says:

And now as I said concerning faith—faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if ye have faith ye hope for things which are not seen, which are true.

We don't always have all the answers, but if we maintain hope and trust in the things we do know, we will be able to receive a witness of the things we want to believe.

Look forward to hearing from y'all, talk to you next week!
