Mop

Feels like it's been a while, since our P-day got moved last week. Totally worth it though, Tenerife is a cool island. I would 100% go back there as a tourist one day.

We came back this week, which meant that we came back to the leaking chapel roof. It's pretty constant but we've got an elaborate containment system (like seven buckets) and some mitigation strategies (we just mop the wet floor twice a day) The building people have been nice about it and even shut the water off for sacrament meeting yesterday. So we'll keep patiently mopping.

We've unfortunately lost almost all of our hope for one of our old friends... we stopped teaching her about a transfer ago, but Efigenia set us up a lesson this week. Unfortunately, it mostly consisted of her asking us to show her where baptisms for the dead are condoned in the Bible and not understanding us when we did. It was pretty sad because we've put a lot of work into helping her and she still believes we were sent by God to her, but she can't accept this one thing. It's kind of the end of the road for her, but we'll keep moving forward.

We've been focused a lot on finding new people, and to that end, growing our English class. It's been cool and we've had great conversations on the streets. One of these was Luca.

I know I talked about cool English-speaking super-elect Italian expat Luca on Fuerteventura, but now it's time for cool English-speaking super-elect *Irish* expat Luca here on Lanzarote. Total coincidence. We were out street contacting, and had this total Best Two Years moment when Elder Romrell started a conversation with this guy in his best Spanish, but it became obvious really quickly that he spoke English. Turns out he's just casually living his best life as a young Irish guy out here on a Spanish island in the middle of nowhere. He asked what we were doing out here and wanted to know so much about our church and what we do. Above all he really wanted to read the Book of Mormon. I pulled out my Spanish giveaway copy, facepalmed internally, and promised to get him an English one. (we have at least 30) we walked and talked with him for 45 minutes, all the way to his bus, explaining what we believe and answering his questions. It was legendary. We'll definitely see him again this week, he made us promise to stay in touch.

Aside from these highlights, a bit of a slow week. We did have two first lessons with married couples, even if one of them just started laughing when Elder Romrell started talking.

You don't talk to MY SON that way!!!!

Oh yeah, and yesterday for sacrament meeting the both speakers AND backup speakers were sick so we gave talks. It's tough because one of them was Efigenia, who almost never lets anything keep her from church. We stopped by and gave her the sacrament and a priesthood blessing later, and she somehow called us later that night with six referrals. This woman is a machine. Earlier this week she took a few ward members and gave out several copies of the Book of Mormon to distant relatives. They're going to prepare those people slowly before referring them to us. Members are awesome.

Last weekend throwback-

We sang "Brightly Beams Our Father's Mercy" as a zone in Spainsh during stake conference late last week, and heard for Elder De Feo of the Europe Area presidency. Something he talked about that I love is that the Spain Las Palmas Stake loves to refer to themselves as the Spain Las Palmas Stake of Zion. This is completely accurate, and brings up an important point. As members of the Lord's church in the latter days, we form part of His covenant community, and are a part of the work of preparing the world for Christ's second coming. Zion is the place, whatever place, where people have made covenants with God and unite together to serve Him.
