Road Trip

This week went by pretty quick. Highlights:

We had zone conference in A Coruña, the big city on the other side of our zone. We worked with the STLs and APs to do a big walkthough of the ideal day as a missionary, and how we should be finding, teaching, planning, contacting, studying, and everything else. It was also awesome because the A Coruña stake invited all their youth and YSA to attend or watch over Zoom, so we got to give them a taste of what being a missionary was like. We had a lot of technical difficulties but it mostly worked out and we had a great conference. We heard quite a few departing missionary testimonies since quite a few members of our zone are in their last transfer, and some cool ones from the YSA as well.

Then afterwards, instead of taking a bus back to our area, the APs took us in their car so we could have an exchange. Road trip! Elder Baird is my old district leader from my training and Elder Janish was my ZL back on the islands so it was great to see them again. Elder Baird used to serve up here too so we visited a ton of members who all missed him a lot. It was cool to see the impact he left here, and I got to know the members a lot better, it was awesome.

After the exchange, the week was tough but had its moments. Manuel, an older Spaniard guy who referred himself to us a few weeks ago, reached out to us again. We had another lesson with him, he's mostly just going though a lot and needs support, from a good group of people but also our Father in Heaven. We showed him around the church and tried to teach him how to pray. He came to church and felt a little better and made some friends. We'll do everything we can to make his life a little better every day with the gospel.

I bore my testimony that day in sacrament meeting about the opportunity that God has given us to get to know Him personally, even if we don't get to see Him personally. The same applies to His Son, Jesus Christ. There's the gift of prayer, scripture study, and the example of the life of our Savior that help us to understand the character, attributes, and perfections of the Godhead. I've been re-studying the gospels recently with the single goal of getting to know the Savior, and I'd invite anyone who wants to get closer to Him to give it a shot. His example is a gift.

During exchanges, Elders Tapia and Janish found an AGRESSIVELY Dominican lady named Kati. Turns out she was baptized years ago but I would never have guessed. We'll be starting from scratch basically. She of course invited us over for lunch on Sunday (and according to her, "whenever we want") And I thought Elder Tapia was Dominican, while she fed us chorizo-lentil soup and wouldn't let me walk away after four plates, she was also sticking her head out the window and inviting everyone she knows in the neighborhood (everyone) to come join us. If we can help her understand the covenant she made when she was baptized, she'll be a powerhouse.

It feels like I just left the islands but transfer news is coming up. I'll probably have it for the next email, so be ready for that next week!
