Ya Vienen Los Reyes

It's been a good week!

Work-wise, starting an area from scratch has been hard, but we've been doing what we can and trying to have fun while we do it! It helps that we've been getting to know the city really well, since we spend a lot of time talking to people on the way in between member passbys. Since we're new we can just knock on any member's door and either introduce ourselves or work on getting them back to church. And we have the chance to talk to a lot of people in between.

Besides the usual people who don't want anything to do with us, we've had some interesting conversations.
-One guy told us he was baptized years ago while his friend was a Mason and had a mixed opinion on Jesus. The second guy wanted us to come to his church but wouldn't give us any contact info.
-An old Spaniard guy told us he got thrown in jail for not going to mass back during the dictatorship, so he didn't want to know anything about God. Screw Franco.
-We asked two Spaniard-looking girls and a guy around our age for directions, had a short conversation about the street we were on, and turned to leave, but then asked if they were locals (they were). It's fun to ask people to guess where we're from so I did. Turns out we can pass for British or Ukrainian. When they found out we were Americans, they switched to flawless white-girl English and nearly gave me a stroke. Turns out they've each got an American parent. Anyway, they wanted to know what the heck we're doing here. Even though one's kinda a spiritual energyist and the other one's agnostic, when we said we share a message about Christ they actually had the logical sense to ask "what's the message?" (I wish people were more like Curious George) We were able to give a quick explanation of "why organized religion" and the idea of both ancient and modern prophets. We didn't change any minds but they were fun to talk to.

It was also Dia de Reyes (Three Kings' Day) this week so I bought a roscon cake. Spanish holidays can be pretty fun.

I realize you're probably wondering why this is going out on a Thursday... we've got zone conference tomorrow, our Vitoria zone combined with the Madrid West, so we had P-day today. The druve down with the quad was nuts, we stopped in a random town on the way and couldn't see or hear a soul, it was scary. At one point we saw snow, which I did not expect to ever happen in Spain. We got Burger King. And we reached new levels of missionary youth album mania.

I'll update yall some more on Monday!
