Onward, Ever Onward!

It's been a long week but we got to testify of Christ and His gospel so no complaints here!


We met with two moms and their kids after English class and taught them about the Restoration, which was awesome. We had our bishop there helping out and invited them both to read and pray about the Book of Mormon. We'll see how it goes. Both oldest kids (like 14 and 10) were spitting Jesus stories when we got to talking about Christ's earthly ministry. It makes me happy when kids have been taught about God and are willing to talk about him instead of just smiling and laughing awkwardly when we ask them a question. Everyone seemed interested in Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon so we'll see how they do! They both wanted to come to church but didn't, there's always next week.


We talked to Richard, the guy from the cool Plan of Salvation lesson, again this week. Before we got started, a lady walked up to us, added if we were JWs, then Mormons, and told Richard not to listen to us. He shrugged it off because he's a chad. Anyway our main goal was just to invite him to read a list of BoM readings called the "21 day challenge". Somehow we ended up taling about God's perfect justice and mercy. We've talked about how everyone will have a chance to hear the gospel, and had a chance to explain baptisms for the dead. It was amazing. We even touched on the doctrine of baptism, planting some seeds there. He'll probably start reading this week!


Those are the highlights! We also passed by a ton of members we haven't met before, did our best to find new people, and had a lot of oportunidades to visit, eat with, and teach with our members. the Santander ward is the best.


It's probably sounding like the weeks are getting pretty repetitive here in Santander, and sometimes it feels that way. The people we meet who make progress do so really slowly and sometimes slide backwards. It's tough sometimes but it's okay because we know it's true. We fervently invite people to make time for God through scripture study and church attendance, and then it's up to them if they go though on it. All we can do is testify that it brings blessings and be persistent, and not stop bothering people until they receive the blessings of God. We know that it's worth it to grow closer to Christ, and that if people take our word for it they can experience His power in their lives too.

Crazy winds have been tearing the city apart, and dumpsters keep betting thrown in the middle of the road... it's causing tons of traffic.

Carnaval's back! Its like a Spanish week-long party with costumes.

Buenos días a todos, cerca o lejos, en tierra o mar Another week in Fuerteventura, although strictly speaking we weren't in Fuerteventura all that much, because we had an exchange in Vecindario on the island of Gran Canaria. I Feel Like This Shouldn't Be Such A Hard Question...

"Que te hace feliz?"  "What makes you happy?" It's a street approach that my comp came up with. The idea is that since God's plan is a plan of happiness, and He doesn't do anything without the ultimate goal being our happiness, the best way to connect conversations to God's plan is to talk about what makes people happy. We tried walking around with a whiteboard the other day, and in general we found that it helps get people talking if nothing else! Some conversations from this week: -Que te hace feliz? -Nothing -... -Que te hace feliz? -Money and a different woman every day -Que te hace feliz? -I'm deaf -*points to whiteboard* -Okay, I'm not deaf. Nothing. -Que te hace feliz? -*points to boyfriend* He's a Muslim... -Great! Que te hace feliz? Nefi Got Me Trippin

^^ Mildly edited actual text message from someone who just sat down and started reading the Book of Mormon. We love it when people actually do that because surprisingly few people are really willing but everyone who does learns a lot. This week was NUTS. Like I talked about last week, we learned a really cool trick to involve members in missionary work: don't run away to another island like two days after they notice you're at church. We stayed this whole week in Lanzarote and saw miracles. Where do I even start? Amparo, who tried several months ago to get baptized but backed off, is BACK. We had a few great lessons, talked to her son in Miami, and watched her connect with her friends in the ward again. She's taking her time but has baptism as her goal. José passed his baptismal interview! He's all set to get baptized in March. His wife Lely also just got back from the temple for the first time so they're ridiculously happy.
