Teach When You Find!

You guys remember Erick, the guy we street contacted a few weeks ago who bought us drinks? He wasn't great about answering our texts, but his family members have been sick so we decided to leave him be for a bit. Two days ago we bumped into him in the plaza again and got to catch up!

He's definitely still interested, life's just complicated. Since we were with him we decided to make a mini-lesson out of it, since getting lessons is the hard part. Why wait? Teaching is when you get to enjoy yourself and feel the Spirit, so we pulled out the Book of Mormon, explained its purpose as an additional testament of Jesus Christ, and invited him to read the intro. I've done it in a million lessons, but as a missionary no one will ever be surprised or weirded out if you divert a casual conversation into an opportunity to talk about Jesus. It's one of the benefits of the tag.

We've had some awesome first lessons this week, as well as a few get-serious lessons with a few people who already know us and what our deal is but need some extra push to consistently read the Book of Mormon. We set up specific times of the day when they should expect a text from us to follow up with them to see if they've read what we asked them to (a chapter, a section, or for one family, exactly one verse). We're trying to set people up for success and take them step by step, but the end goal is a personal witness from the Holy Ghost and conversion to Jesus Christ!

On Saturday we helped the Coello family clear trees and paint the fence on their new property, and we had a barbecue afterwards... not a bad way to turn 21.
